Nintendo has recently updated their official Twitter with an announcement that the Illumination Super Mario Movie has been delayed. For those who are not aware, the film was first announced in 2018 and the cast was revealed during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct. The movie was originally set to debut in theaters on December 21, 2022 and will now be released on April 7, 2023 in North America and April 28, 2023 in Japan. No other details are confirmed about the project at this time of writing so stayed tuned for updates.
As reported earlier the cast includes:
- Chris Pratt as Mario
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
- Charie Day as Luigi
- Jack Black as Bowser
- Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
- Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong
- Charles Martinet as Suprise Cameos
- Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek
- Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong
- Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike
This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.
